Buchanan Athletic Boosters
Senior Athlete Scholarship Award

Good evening – My name is Cindy Soltys and I have the pleasure of serving on the Booster Scholarship Committee. 

The Buchanan Athletic Boosters formed a Scholarship Committee in the Fall of 2008 in an effort to raise funds for two senior athletes – one female and one male to help with their college expenses.

Funds were raised through the three Adult Coed Floor Hockey Tournaments that we have hosted over the last year and a half.  To date, we have raised enough funds to award two, $1,000 scholarships for the Classes of 2010, 2011, 2012 & we are well on our way to the Class of 2013.

On behalf of the Buchanan Athletic Boosters – we would like to thank all of you that have come out to support this extreme fun event.  Special thanks to all of the “adults” that have put together competitive teams that make this an event that the entire Buchanan community looks forward to each Spring.  While some of us think these adult competitors are crazy – we sure enjoy hosting the event and watching the fun.  It has been an exciting way to bring together BHS alumni, the Buchanan community and even competitors from Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and the Detroit area.  I guess Floor Hockey is popular after all.

We had 15 applicants that went through a competitive process and tonight I have the pleasure of awarding two seniors our first Buchanan Athletic Boosters Scholarships.  Each student will receive $1,000 to assist with the cost of attending college in the upcoming school year.
